Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how ROLESPACE ME LLC ("Rolespace," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares information about you when you use rolespace.me and its services (the "Service"). It is part of our Terms of Use. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here. Rolespace is for adults (18+) only; see our Age & Minor Safety rules.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information — your username, display name, email address, and password (stored only as a secure hash, never in plain text).
  • Profile and character content — avatar, headline, pronouns, "about me," characters, custom layouts (HTML/CSS), and anything else you add to your pages.
  • Content you post — roleplay writing, status and social posts (such as Echo, Halo, and the Wire), comments, bulletins, photos, stickers, and group and universe content.
  • Messages — direct messages, group chats, and inbox mail you send through the Service.
  • Activity data — last-seen and presence status, profile view counts, friendships and follows, and interactions such as likes and reposts.
  • Uploaded files — images you upload to your gallery, profile, posts, or photo feed.
  • Support and reports — messages you send through support tickets and the reporting tools.
  • Technical and security data — when sensitive or moderation-related actions occur, we may log your IP address and browser/device information (user-agent) along with timestamps, to protect account security, investigate abuse, and keep audit records.
  • Cookies and local storage — a login (session) cookie and locally stored preferences, described in Section 5.
  • Premium interest — if you sign up to be notified about premium features, we store the email address you provide for that purpose.

We do not currently process payments directly. If premium billing launches, payments will be handled by a third-party payment processor under its own privacy policy, and we will update this policy accordingly.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Service;
  • Create your account, authenticate you, and keep your account secure;
  • Display your profile, content, and activity to others as intended by the features you use and your settings;
  • Send you notifications about activity (in-app, and by email only for the categories you opt into);
  • Respond to your support requests and reports;
  • Enforce our Terms and Community Rules, review reported content, and keep the community safe;
  • Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
  • Comply with our legal obligations.

3. Legal Bases (EEA/UK Users)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data on these legal bases: performance of a contract (to provide the Service you sign up for); legitimate interests (to secure the Service, moderate content, prevent abuse, and improve our features, balanced against your rights); consent (for example, optional email notifications and premium-interest signup, which you can withdraw at any time); and legal obligation (for example, responding to lawful requests and meeting child-safety reporting duties).

4. Content Visibility and Staff Access

Content you post on Rolespace is stored on our servers. While much of it is shown only to the audience you choose through your privacy settings, Rolespace staff and administrators can access posted content for moderation, safety review, and enforcement of our Terms. Our moderation tools let authorized staff review public-facing content (such as profiles, posts, photos, and reported items) when investigating reports or enforcing the rules. This access is limited to what is necessary and is not used for advertising or sold to third parties.

Direct messages and private group chats carry a higher expectation of confidentiality. They are not surfaced in routine moderation tools. Staff may access private message content only in exceptional circumstances — such as a valid legal request, an imminent safety threat, or investigation of a serious violation — and only to the minimum extent necessary. When sensitive staff actions occur, we keep an audit record (including the acting staff member, the action, and technical details such as IP and user-agent).

5. Cookies and Local Storage

Rolespace uses only what's needed to sign you in and remember your preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

  • Essential login cookie. When you sign in, we set a secure session cookie (named rs_token) that keeps you logged in as you use the Service. It's required to stay signed in, is sent securely, and is not readable by client-side scripts.
  • Preferences (local storage). We use your browser's local storage to remember choices such as theme, accent color, layout/display settings, your notification-sound preference, and chat window state. This stays in your browser.

You can clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser settings, and you can clear the session cookie by signing out. Blocking the essential login cookie means you won't be able to stay signed in; clearing local storage resets your preferences. If we later add features that rely on additional cookies (for example, a payment processor or analytics), we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent.

6. How We Share Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only in these limited situations:

  • With other users — the profile content, posts, and activity you choose to share are visible to others according to the features you use and your settings.
  • Service providers — companies that help us run the Service, such as our hosting/infrastructure provider and our email-delivery provider, under confidentiality obligations and only as needed.
  • Legal and safety — when required by law, legal process, or a government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Rolespace, our members, or the public — including reporting child sexual exploitation to the appropriate authorities.
  • Business transfers — if Rolespace is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
  • With your consent — when you direct us to share it.

7. Where Your Data Is Stored

Rolespace is operated from the United States, and your information may be stored and processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

8. Data Retention

We keep your account information and content while your account is active. If you delete a post, it is removed from the Service and from routine moderation views. If you delete your account (see Section 9), we permanently delete your account and associated personal content, except that: (a) copies may remain in routine backups for a limited period before being overwritten; (b) we may retain limited information where necessary to comply with the law, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, or preserve safety records (for example, records relating to bans, abuse, or child-safety reports). Content others have already shared or copied may persist outside our control.

9. Account & Data Removal

You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings → Account. For your security, you'll be asked to confirm and re-enter your password. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. It removes:

  • Your profile, characters, custom layouts, and account details;
  • Your posts, roleplay content, comments, bulletins, and social posts;
  • Your uploaded images, gallery photos, and stickers;
  • Messages you sent, and your friendships, follows, top-friends, and likes;
  • Groups you own — including the content within them — and your memberships in other groups;
  • Any blocks you set, and other records associated with your account.

Note: deleting a group you own removes that group's content, so other members' posts inside a group you own are also removed. If you want a group to continue, transfer or wind it down before deleting your account. The limited exceptions in Section 8 (backups and legal/safety records) still apply.

If you can't access your account, you can request deletion by emailing privacy@rolespace.me from the email address on your account. You don't have to delete your account just to take a break — you can log out, appear offline, limit friend requests, or set your profile to friends-only in Settings → Privacy.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you, and request a copy;
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information (much of which you can edit directly in your settings and profile);
  • Delete your account and personal information;
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent you previously gave;
  • Data portability, where applicable.

EEA/UK users may lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority. California users have rights under the CCPA/CPRA to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request access and deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any right, contact privacy@rolespace.me; we may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

11. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information — for example, storing passwords only as salted hashes and restricting staff access to what is necessary. No online service can be completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and keep it confidential.

12. Children's Privacy

Rolespace is strictly for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us with personal information, please contact privacy@rolespace.me and we will delete it promptly. See our Age & Minor Safety rules.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
